Front Desk/Research Assistant, UW-GB Archives
Working as a Front Desk Attendant/Research Assistant in the Archives and Area Research Center is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience with original local history materials. The collections include diaries, letters, memoirs, photos, maps, oral histories, court records, citizenship papers, vital records, school records and more!
Duties: Employees in this position help provide customer service to a wide range of researchers interested in a variety of subjects. We help students of all ages, family historians, and scholars. In addition to helping researchers, employees further support the Archives department by assisting with administrative tasks; various marketing initiatives (including social media, exhibits, etc.); digital applications; and working with the archival collections.
Outreach: At various times during the year the Attendant is expected to help the Archives Department prepare for and participate in events such as National History Day, Green Bay area school field trips, major campus programs, and community projects. These events offer fun opportunities to use the Attendant’s individual creativity and skill sets.
Skills: The Archives Department student employees often find themselves juggling multiple tasks, completing projects as team members, and independently working on a variety of detailed projects. All of these qualities as well as strong oral and written communication skills are important to be successful in this job. Full training is provided on all aspects of the Front Desk Attendant/Research Assistant’s job responsibilities.
Hours: Requires availability to work approximately ten hours per week, the majority of which should be when the department is open: Tuesdays, 12:30-8:00 and Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 9:30-3:00 and one Saturday per month (12:00-4:00). Hours may be required during break period. Work study preferred, but not necessary.
